System Selection and Replacement Strategy

The existing installation was an Aquaboost MAB SP2V variable speed booster set originally installed in 2021. Following the flooding event, three replacement pumps and associated panel components were supplied to restore full system functionality.

Retaining the MAB SP2V variable speed configuration preserved key operational and environmental benefits by modulating pump speed in response to demand. This delivers:

• Reduced electricity consumption
• Lower overall carbon footprint
• Reduced operational noise levels
• Decreased mechanical wear
• Extended system service life

Retaining the variable speed configuration was critical. The SP2V system modulates pump speed in response to demand, maintaining stable pressure while reducing energy consumption, mechanical wear and noise levels compared to fixed speed alternatives. Preserving this functionality ensured the spa’s operational efficiency and environmental performance were not compromised.

To address the site requirements, The Flowboost AV2 booster set (formerly known as the Aquaboost MAB Vertical) – a vertical twin pump booster set designed for dependable pressure performance and simplified installation – was selected as the ideal solution for this replacement. 

The Flowboost AV2 configuration offered several advantages for this project:

• Space-Saving Vertical Design: The vertical configuration allowed for installation in the confined plant room while eliminating the stagnation risks associated with older horizontal vessels.

• Twin-Pump Reliability: Featuring duty-assist and standby operation, the AV2 ensures continuous service even during the busiest holiday periods, reducing the risk of emergency callouts.

• Compliance Ready: The system is WRAS approved, meeting all current potable water requirements and supporting easy site audits.

• Operational Efficiency: Stable pressure delivery reduces mechanical wear and energy waste, providing long-term reliability that reflects well on the installer.

The compact vertical design also made the system well-suited to the restricted plant room layout, allowing the contractor to install the new booster without extensive structural changes.

Upon assessing the Berkeley Square project, Flowtech Water Solutions recognised the challenge of maximising space while meeting the project’s high specifications.

To address this, Flowtech proposed a solution centred around a 7000 x 6000 x 2000 mm internally flanged tank. This would be paired with a VMV four-pump booster set from Flowtech’s cold water booster set range. Chosen for its advanced features, the VMV offers a transducer and an inverter per pump and water hammer, along with the appropriate levels of anti-surge and water hammer protection the VMV leapt out as the appropriate choice for this prestigious project.

When Flowtech Water Solutions were initially approached for the project Discovery Quay 2 it became immediately apparent space was at a premium given the high specification required for the project. 

Flowtech set to work basing our proposal around a 4000 x 3000 x 3150 metre tall internally flanged tank and the suitable four pump booster set from our Flowboost Pro Cold Water Booster Set range, with its market leading features such as multi master surge protection, true stand by facility to drastically reduce the tank capacity and our additional set point to increase the delivered pressure on activation of the sprinkler system.
