Berkeley Square

Project Origin

Flowtech Water Solutions recently supplied and commissioned a cold water booster set and a sectional water storage tank for Berkeley Square.

Located in Salford, Berkeley Square is a short distance from Manchester City Centre and Media City, with connections to the tram network. Spanning over six storeys, this development will see 500 apartments available in one, two, and three bedrooms and will provide tenants with communal spaces such as outdoor terraces, co-workspaces and a gym.

Project Requirements

Berkeley Square posed several challenges with a required storage capacity of 62,000 litres to cover both domestic and sprinkler water storage, alongside a 4-pump booster set suitable to cover both domestic and sprinkler requirements. The features of the Flowboost V.M.V Booster Set enabled this project to be successfully delivered in the proposed configuration without extending the plant room or situating the cold water storage tank externally.

Due to the large sprinkler volume required Flowtech utilised Keraflow delayed action valves to ensure that the volume of water in the tank was turned over regularly while also maintaining the required sprinkler volume as required in BS-9251:2021. To further reduce the required sprinkler volume Flowtech employed a unique solution in the flow limiting valve provided for the feed to the sprinkler system. This ensured that the project could be delivered for the client with the originally allocated space for plant, with alternative proposals requiring space to be utilised that was allocated to apartments at a value of circa £400,000.

In addition to the booster set and tank Flowtech were also involved in the supply of six Flowpac Compact SS CAT5 booster sets for various washdown points.

Our Approach

Upon assessing the Berkeley Square project, Flowtech Water Solutions recognised the challenge of maximising space while meeting the project’s high specifications.

To address this, Flowtech proposed a solution centred around a 7000 x 6000 x 2000 mm internally flanged tank. This would be paired with a VMV four-pump booster set from Flowtech’s cold water booster set range. Chosen for its advanced features, the VMV offers a transducer and an inverter per pump and water hammer, along with the appropriate levels of anti-surge and water hammer protection the VMV leapt out as the appropriate choice for this prestigious project.
